Its an easy and casual way to tell us what is in store. Centennial, the mini-series, is introduced to the audience by James Michener, the man who authored the novel on which the mini-series is based. Its one of the best productions ever done for the television stage. The character of Hans "Potato" Brumbaugh appears to be loosely based on the Colorado historical figure Rufus "Potato" Clark, a failed gold prospector who turned to agriculture and became a pioneer in irrigation. Robert Conrad plays Pasquinel, and in my opinion, its his best performance. The scene where Nate Pearson, Bufe Coker, and Fat Laura are murdered by the cattlemen’s hired killers bears similarities to the lynching of Ellen “Cattle Kate” Watson with the Oliver Secombe character taking a role similar to that of Albert John Bothwell. 'Centennial' is a great mini-series to discover America It goes over a span of 200 years It's about Pasquinel, a solitary trader with the Indians, who made his way through territory no white man has ever traveled, defending his trade and his life It's about a man from Scotland who had come seeking solitude, but he found friendship and love His name was Alexander McKeag It's about the legendary. There were numerous filming locations in several parts of the United States. The range war depicted in series is similar in many respects to the 1892 Johnson County War in Wyoming. There is a city called Centennial, Colorado, but it did not exist until 2001 and its location and history are not at all similar in any way to the town described in either the book or miniseries. #CENTENNIAL MINI SERIES EPISODE GUIDE TRIAL#Captain John McIntosh's role in the incident and subsequent trial appears to be loosely based on Silas Soule. (Interestingly, in the episode the Yellow Apron, Pasquinel tells his son Jake that he was named after Jacques LaRamee.) The character of Colonel Frank Skimmerhorn appears to be loosely based on John Chivington who led the infamous Sand Creek massacre in Colorado in 1864. The Pasquinel character bears similarities to Jacques LaRamee a French-Canadian pioneer fur trapper who explored the area of the North Platte River in southern Wyoming in the early 19th century.
